One of the most powerful actions you can take in breaking the cycle of poverty in your
life is to learn to give unconditionally. Giving is an extremely powerful force that takes place simultaneously in the physical,
mental and spiritual realm. I am sure you've heard of the saying "It's better to give than to receive." But do you understand
the hidden power that lies within the act of "giving?"
There is a verse in the Bible in Galatians 6:7 that says “Do
not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows”. When you give something from your heart without expecting
something in return, you release a powerful force that activates your good deed to "spring back" back to you in amazing, and
sometimes unusual ways. On the other side of that coin is when you withhold, become stingy and selfish with what you have
you will not get anything, simply because you are not giving anything out. Then there is the scientific side of giving. In
scientific terms Newton’s third law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite
reaction.
I firmly believe that whatever you impart to others will come
back to you a hundred fold. "For if you give, you will get! Your gift will return to you in full and overflowing measure,
pressed down, shaken together to make room for more and running over." (Luke 6:38)
Jesus even goes on to make it clear just how much to give: "whatever measure you use to give—large or small—will be used to measure
what is given back to you." (Luke 6:38b)
Galatians 6:9 says, "And let us not be weary in
well doing [giving] for in due season we shall reap a reward if we faint not." (Gal. 6:9)
You are doing yourself a big favor by helping someone in need.
By doing even the smallest acts of generosity, you are inviting good things to come into your life. I remember sometime back
when my children were small. We were having a very hard time and had just moved into a new apartment. Earlier that a week
I was talking with one of the members of my church who was also a single mother who mentioned that she did not have the money
for her phone bill and that it would be turned off. I also needed a phone at my place but did not have the deposit of $100
that I needed for my phone. So I was inclined to just wait until I got the deposit before I would have my phone turned on,
but knew it would be a while.
Since I look for opportunities to give and I knew her phone
number I went and paid the last money that I had on her phone bill. Now the phones in my new apartment were all plugged into
the wall, because even though there was no service I could still get a line to call the phone company and 911. I was asleep
later that night and heard a phone ringing that partially woke me. I remember saying to myself “I wish those neighbors
would turn down their phone volume” and turned over drifted off to sleep again. Then it happened again, the phone ringing.
I suddenly realized that it was not the neighbor’s phone but mine. This was the same day I was told by the phone company
that would not be connected until I paid the deposit of $100 that I certainly had not paid. This was a miracle! I had reaped
what I had sown.
